tipSC is an educational outreach service for Medicaid providers that offers timely information to help identify and prevent potential gaps in evidence-based care, as well as detect fraud, abuse, overuse or inappropriate use.
tipSC is directed by a clinical team in the Division of General Internal Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina. The service fulfills one component of the Medicaid drug utilization review program (DUR) to help ensure that prescriptions for outpatient drugs are appropriate, medically necessary and not likely to result in adverse medical consequences. DUR programs use professional medical practices, computer technology and data processing to assist in the management of data regarding the prescribing of medicines and the dispensing of prescriptions over periods of time.
